Want to write open source code?
Want to make money USD 5000 with you code?
Want to do both?

Historically, Google Summer of Code has brought together nearly 3,400
students with over 200 open source projects to create millions of
lines of code. We're looking for
students to join in making 2010 the best Summer of Code yet! Every successful
student contributors will be offered a 5,000 USD stipend, enabling
them to focus on their coding projects for three months.

The Google Summer of Code (GSOC) program is designed to encourage
student participation in open source development. Kicking off in 2005,
the program has several goals:

• Inspire young developers to begin participating in open source development
• Provide students in Computer Science and related fields the
opportunity to do work related to their academic pursuits during the
summer
• Give students more exposure to real-world software development
scenarios (e.g.,
distributed development, software licensing questions,
mailing-list etiquette, etc.)
• Get more open source code created and released for the benefit of all
• Help open source projects identify and bring in new developers and
committers

Student applications will be accepted from March 29–April 9, 2010!

For an exposure about the GCOS 2010, we as UTM Open Source Software
Group will organize the GSOC 2010 Light Talk @UTM. We will invite
experienced participant and also a GSOC mentor, Devtar Singh to
explain about the program, share his experiences and strategy to be
selected for the program. Feel free to attend :

Memasangan KVM Dalam Ubuntu 9.10

Memasangan KVM Dalam Ubuntu 9.10

Sepanjang minggu ini sibuk dengan KVM dalam Ubuntu 9.10 sama ada
Desktop dan juga Server. Asalnya hendak buat Xen tapi berdasarkan
perkembangan semasa melibatkan Xen, masa untuk bertukar.
Keperluan minggu ini ada dua. Satu untuk kawan dan satu untuk kerja.

1) Kawan hendak pasangkan Windows 7 dalam Notebook yang memang sedia
terpasang dengan Ubuntu. Saya pulak hendak overwrite Ubuntu sedang dia
sudah selesa dengan Ubuntu. Hanya kerana tempat kerja baru ramai yang
menggunakan Windows dan Microsoft Office terpaksalah dia pasang juga
Windows.

2) Server yang dipasang 16GB CPU Quad Core dan 3TB ruang cakera keras.
Memang sesuai sangat untuk virtual Machine (VM).

Nota rujukan saya gunakan ini

Untuk kerja 1) ingatkan tidak menjadi sebab dengan mengggunakan arahan
egrep '(vmx|svm)' --color=always /proc/cpuinfo
tidak menunjukkan langsung Dell Inspiron 1420 (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo
Processor) ini sokong "hardware virtualsation". Apa lagi saya belasah
sahaja. Chita Usaha Jaya. Hehehe. Nampaknya KVM berjaya dipasang dan
Ubuntu Dekstop 9.10 pun boleh dipasang dalam KVM tersebut (ujian
dengan 256MB dan 4GB harddisk sahaja).
Ada juga cadangan hendak pasang Virtualbox, tapi timbul masalah hendak
compile kernel module. Hendak format sayang sebab sudah ada banyak
data.

Untuk perkara 2) masalah timbul dengan EFI-GPT yang digunakan oleh
server tersebut. Daripada rancangan asal hendak gunakan Xen dengan
Centos 5.2 sudah jadi Ubuntu Server 9.10 dengan KVM.
Untuk perkara 2 tidak habis lagi sebab perlu pasangkan dengan 2 centos
dan Openfiler. Akan bersambung lagi.
Perkara yang perlu diambil berat.
1) Jika mahu jalankan Virtual Machine gunakan OS 64bit. Untuk dapat
masalah sekiranya memori lebih 2.5GB dan juga 4TB ruang cakera keras.
2) Dengan perkembangan OS, dicadangkan Linux dicadang base OS dan
kemudian OS lain seperti Windows dipasang dalam VM
3) Selain KVM ada lagi pilihan lain untuk VM seperti VirtualBox dan Xen

[Dunia-Digital] your boot partition is on a disk using the GPT partitioning scheme, but this machine cannot boot using GPT

Hari ini saya diberi tugas untuk memasang sistem operasi dalam sebuah
server dengan 3TB ruang cakera keras. Pada mulanya hendak gunakan
Centos 5.4 tetapi timbul masalah apabila keluar "error" ini. Selepas

Specs server ini menggunakan hardware RAID. Jadi apa yang berlaku
virtual volume RAID dalam konfigurasi hardware Raid telah setkan flag
GPT untuk partition tersebut. Grub dalam Centos 5.4 pada masa ini
tidak sokong GPT.

Hanya Dengan Ubuntu Server 9.10 dapat saya pasang OS dalam server
tersebut. Perbezaan hanya dalam versi Grub. Ubuntu Server 9.10 agak ke
depan versinya.
